Our review

Presentation

Introduced in 2015, the first MX Master of the name evolved significantly in terms of design compared to its predecessor the MX Revolution and was equipped with an improved disengageable dial, capable of automatically switching from a notched mode to a free mode. Two years later, the MX Master 2S focused on software developments, without changing the design. Continuing on a 2-year cycle, Logitech logically introduces the MX Master 3 in 2019 and this time goes further than with its 2S, developing both the hardware and the software of its flagship office mouse. Main novelty, an electromagnetic "MagSpeed" wheel promising ultra-fast and silent scrolling, in addition to better reliability.

The MX Master 3 was launched on September 4, 2019 in two colors (dark gray / silver and light gray / white) at the recommended retail price of € 109, the same price as that of the 2S.

Precision

Logitech continues to demonstrate its expertise in mouse sensors and proves once again that it masters its subject with the Darkfield sensor of the MX Master 3. It is designed to work on a wide variety of surfaces, including glass. The accuracy remains very good and there are only players who can find fault with it, this optical sensor is not fast enough to support the ultra-fast movements required to play certain types of games (FPS, in particular).

In any case, this is not the recommended use of such a mouse, the shape of which is very ill-suited and we will therefore not blame it for operating at 125 Hz (8 ms) to preserve its autonomy. We would simply recommend favoring the use of the Unifying radio transceiver provided, the link being thus more reactive than a conventional Bluetooth link. Latency remains nevertheless acceptable in this second scenario. The objective of an office mouse being to operate with precision on all types of surfaces, we logically assign 5 stars also on this part.

In terms of sensitivity, the MX Master 3 can still climb up to 4000 dpi, which is more than enough, even in the context of multi-screen use with large display definitions. The mouse will be as precise anyway, whether it works at 400 dpi or 4000 dpi, remember.

Precision

Conclusion

After a second iteration a little shy in terms of new features, the MX Master third of the name is approaching perfection in terms of office mice. Comfortable, precise and rich in functions, it is distinguished above all by a fairly impressive MagSpeed wheel which makes it difficult to return to a mouse equipped with a classic wheel once you have tasted it. A favorite.
