Launched in Spain for a few months at a price of € 129.99, the Push are Skullcandy's first completely wireless proposal for intras. Their technical data sheet is fairly standard for a product of this type: IPX4 certification, autonomy of 6 hours per charge, Bluetooth 4.2 connection (SBC codec only), stabilizers for better support ... Little promise is made on sound performance, the manufacturer just specifies that the bass is not left behind. Let's see that ...

Skullcandy hadn't lied: the Pushes emphasize low frequencies, but with very relative precision and subtlety…

They opt for a very subtle V signature, and that is an understatement to say. These intras put a lot of emphasis on low frequencies and treble, with a clear preference for the first. Beyond the excessively exaggerated boost in this area (with the feeling of pressure, seat and impact that go hand in hand), the behavior of the membranes in this region is far from being mastered. The bass is certainly very deep, but they are especially far too forward and poorly defined. It is difficult to discern the attacks and to identify precisely the various elements operating in this register (the famous combo bass drum / bass, to cite only this example). Most of the time, we are faced with a “shapeless mass”, especially if the song listened to is already naturally generous in the bass. This behavior causes mask effects on the low-mid / mid-range and also accelerates hearing fatigue, especially for people sensitive to this region of the spectrum. The only solution is to stay at a very reasonable level of listening.

The reproduction of the second part of the spectrum is a bit more balanced, but there is frankly more neutral in the genre. The emphasis on mid / treble, coupled with better precision, provides a welcome contrast to the massiveness of the extreme bass. The contrast is such that it gives the impression of a “split” sound in two. The sound clarity is slightly too pronounced, but this allows many sources to stand out, especially the voices. The intelligibility of these is The good extension of the intras in the higher frequencies also plays in their favor. The trebles are relatively large and airy, so we can get a taste of the more subtle effects, even if we must admit that the appreciation of the depth of the soundstage is largely spoiled by the mass of bass.

Push distortion is far from the weakest of this type of intras. That said, the harmonic distortion rate remains at an acceptable level.

Conclusion

Difficulty for the Push to pull out of the game as the competition is fierce. It is better to save a few euros and turn to models like the Elite 65t / Elite Active 65t or the Soundsport Free, which are better in all respects, especially if you intend to use them for sports.
